4 Evolutionary Changes due to Enviroment |
Explanation of Natural Selection to Komodo Dragon |
Size- The size of the Komodo Dragon was impacted by the size of it's prey around him. The size of his prey increased in size to avoid being eaten, but the Komodo also grew in size to combat this and is the length of 10 feet at the moment.
Tongue/Sense of Smell- The sense of Smell the Komodo Dragon has been changed to adapt to the way he hunts down his prey. Due to him living in the Tropics where there is many places to hide, he must have a great sense of smell to sense his prey over 1-3 miles away. Skin- The Komodo Dragon skin is like an armor that surrounds him to resist the mightiest of blows from other organisms or other Komodo Dragons as well. Eyes- The Komodo Dragon hunting style is a stalking style where he waits for the best moment to capture his prey. His eyes are well suited to best see things that are stationary and suck during the night/shade. That does not matter, because he hunts during the day and with the tropics being very sunny he does not have an issue with lights. |
The Komodo Dragon is a unique reptile. Due to it's isolation in the Indonesian Islands it stand out among other creature relative to it. Still it is a reptile and share many feature as does a reptile does too.
Size- The size of reptiles vary in different climates. The Komodo Dragon is its size due to the amount of heat is available to it as the sun shines many times in the tropics and allows them to heat up their blood. The size also was increased due it needing to be larger to eat it's previous preys who were also increased in size. Claws- Claws have not gone away due to the universal use of them. Claws can be used to climb trees, dig holes, fight, be used as tools, and be used to keep prey down. The Komodo Dragon uses it's claws to climb trees when it is young and also uses them to dig holes and fight which is a very useful adaptation to it's environment. Tail- The Komodo Dragon tail is used for balance when it stands up to reach things taller than it. Tails were kept in the reptile family to be used for swimming, balance or a defensive adaptation to avoid predators or confuse them. Cold Blooded- The adaptation of being cold blooded has not gone away due to the heat of the earth is increasing since the ice age and allows for these reptiles to become larger in size. Since the tropics are near the equator the Komodo Dragon has no problem being cold and is still not a challenge to keep being cold blooded. |
